On the front of the dock are three 5Gbps Type-A USB ports (thumb drives, etc.), a headphone jack, a 5Gbps USB Type-C port (handy for charging phones), and two memory card slots: SD and microSD. Even though the more expensive configuration models add a pair of USB 3 ports, they still lack an SD card slot for times when you need to use it. Sabrent outfitted the HB-SIMC with the type of ports the average user will use most often. Satechi Aluminum USB 3.0 Hub and Card Reader. The other nitpick is that while the HB-SIMC looks very iMac-like in place, it might’ve looked “perfectly” iMac in real aluminum rather than painted plastic. This might also have been this particular iMac. But it certainly fit well enough to function, and the less-than-flush coupling is not in plain sight, so that’s a bit of a non-issue. Note that in my hands-on, the Thunderbolt 3 jack didn’t marry quite as well as you see in the image above. Individual card reader slots can be used to access SD. A 3.5mm headphone and microphone port allows you to connect audio equipment, while an HDMI 2.0 port on the rear of the hub supports resolutions up to 4k 60 Hz. Note that you’ll need to hold the body of the iMac in place when you insert or remove devices to preserve its tilt angle. Designed specifically for iMac 2017 models and later, this hub provides three USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports and a USB Type-C port. Sabrent’s HB-SMC fits well on a 2017 21-inch iMac, though at the Thunderbolt 3 jack, it didn’t sit quite as flush as shown.
USB 3 HUB FOR IMAC MAC OS
Everything was working on Mac OS Big Sur, and it is only since updating to Monterey it has stopped working. Power is allowed to pass through to connected devices, however the transfer of data has stopped working. The USB 3.0 Hub adds four additional USB ports to your Mac (or PC), allowing you to connect USB devices such as digital cameras, phones, external hard drives, flash drives, and printers to one convenient place. Since upgrading to Mac OS Monterey, solely the USB 3.0 port on my Hub has stopped working. The picture below shows the marriage of hub and computer quite nicely.
